Born and raised I Minnesota Scott enlisted in the US Coast Guard after high school and here is where his aviation career began. Trained as an aviation electrician he worked on the aging Sikorsky helicopters and the newer Dassault Falcon jets. As an air crewman he was an Avionicsman, Flight Mechanic and Drop Master flying diverse missions which included law enforcement, fishing fleet surveys and middle of the night search and rescue operations. Scott was stationed at Air Station Sitka when the Exxon Valdez went aground in Prince William Sound and spent time in the region flying over and surveying the damage. Leaving the USCG in 1990 Scott began work as an Airframe and Power Plant mechanic working on Cessna and de Havilland Aircraft for Bellair in Sitka. He transitioned from the water front to the airport and went to work for Mountain Aviation in Sitka where he was able to work on Bell helicopters as well as Cessna, de Havilland and Piper aircraft. When, in 1998 the opportunity presented itself Scott branched out on his own and began Harris Aircraft Maintenance. A shop located on the Sitka Airport that provided aircraft maintenance to local aircraft owners and a variety of commercial operators. Not more than 1 year later the name was changed to Harris Aircraft Services, Inc. and a pilot was hired (Scott never got his pilots license), a Cessna 185 purchased and a new air taxi was begun in Sitka. Today the company is a little bit larger and still doing aircraft maintenance. At its heart are Scott and his wife Laura who has been the voice of reason since the beginning. Of the 2 children born in Sitka one is enrolled in College at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks and the other is in High School in Sitka. In his free time Scott enjoys………..work. There is very little free time except for annual visits to family in Minnesota and Montana.
Vice President: Laura
Director of Flight Operations: Kristin
Kristin’s aviation career has come full circle. Her first flying job was in Anchorage, and in the following decades has seen her flying all over this wonderful country and has now landed her in Sitka. It is her job to keep the airplanes flying safely and providing excellent service to our clients. This is a job she has done before with an FAA certified air carrier in Northern Michigan, but has flown out of Florida and California as well. She is a very accomplished IFR pilot with thousands of hours of flying, much of it with the Navajos we fly. With her own airplane, “Maggie” she has criss-crossed the country, and has landed in 45 out of the 50 states in the union. Originally from Minnesota, Kristin loves the northern woods and the clean air of Alaska. She makes her home in Sitka with the a white standard poodle, Cody, who is a complete goofball.
Chief Pilot: Evan
Evan's previous flying experience came from the Northwest Arctic flying for Bering Air. Here in Sitka he flys the Cessna 185 and the Piper Navajo. "Being dually qualified I take great pride in getting people where they need to go! When I am not flying I enjoy fishing (for the freezer and fun), traveling, or staying at home with my soon to be wife and kitty cat. In August of this year my fiancé and I will marry and celebrate our honeymoon floating down the Salmon River in Idaho!"
Director Of Maintenance: Michael
Michael has been with Harris Air for almost 7 years and has been the Director of Maintenance for 4 of those years. He started out working with mechanics in his Dad’s shop growing up and his passion and skills for the job continued through life. He spent 4 years serving in the United States Navy where he trained and worked as an Avionics Technician as well as a Search and Rescue Swimmer. When he isn’t in the shop, Michael enjoys spending time with his family, their dog Ruckus, hiking, hunting, and flying!
Sitka Station Manager: Jen
Jen was born and raised in Sitka, AK. She has been working for Harris Air for over a year, and is no stranger to the aviation industry. Her Dad was a Helicopter Pilot and Jen got a first-hand experience growing up around aircraft of all sorts. She loves the outdoors and enjoys hunting, fishing, and hiking!
Juneau Station Manager: Kelsey
Originally from Michigan, Kelsey has lived in Juneau for 4 years and has been working with Harris Air since 2017. "I love being a part of a company that still carries the values and morals I grew up with in my family's small business. All decisions are based off safety and our customers! My job running the Juneau Station and Harris Air promotions has been a great experience visiting the communities we serve and getting to know our passengers on a first name basis!" When she is not at work, you can find her outdoors hiking, fishing, or soaking up family time with her husband and 2 dogs.
